Moab: Arches, Off-roading & Rafting

We had another long driving day across Utah after we left Zion.  We have found our old extreme distance driving skills now though so we made it to Moab in one day. The highway was surrounded by amazing scenery which kept the drive interesting. We even had time to go to the visitor centre when we arrived to pick up some tour leaflets and choose a sunset tour for the next day.

Chilling at the campsite!

Rainbow in Moab

In the morning we drove the few miles from Moab to Arches national park - yes another national park. We bought the $80 annual park pass at Yosemite and we've been getting our money's worth!  A usual we went to all the viewpoints and did a few short hikes to the Windows, Double Arch and Balanced Rock.

Another shot of the old van!

In the evening we went on a sunset 4WD tour along the Hell's Revenge trail near Moab. There wasn't much of a sunset (still cloudy) but the driving up the rocks was pretty cool. The vehicles can go up to 70 degrees before tipping over (I asked the guide), we went up to about 65 on some of the slopes!  There are also dinosaur tracks all over the rocks up there!

Going up....
...going down!

Colorado River

The next day we took a rafting trip on the Colorado River. One good thing about all the rain is that we got a few decent rapids despite it being the end of the season. The rest of the trip we spent drifting down the river telling the other passengers about our travels and making everyone jealous, haha! Oh, we stopped for an awesome BBQ lunch too. I would've been too full to swim if I fell in in the afternoon!

Not much rapid action here!  Nice scenery to drift through though.

Lunch break over!

Rosie and I having a chat instead of paddling!  We were at the front and therefore the wettest though - so it's only fair!

After the trip we were planning a sunset hike to Delicate Arch but Rosie said she wanted to relax instead. I have been before and the weather wasn't exactly sunset friendly so we went souvenir shopping instead. I needed some new sunglasses because mine must've fallen into the river in the rapids. No big loss- they had actually broken the day before and been mended with a piece of plastic I found on the van floor. You have to be resourceful on the road!
