Two blog entries today - we have power and we're hiding in the van from the rain so we thought we'd catch up:
The forest fire is still burning in Yosemite and the Tioga Pass which crosses the park East to West was still closed. This road was also our only direct route to travel across to Nevada and Utah where we had planned to go next.
We had to take a big detour all around the North of the park. Even this route had only been reopened the day before, lucky for us or our detour would've been much worse. There was still a huge amount of smoke around and most of the traffic on the road was the fire crews. We think this fire is probably worse than any we saw in Australia.
We weren't allowed to stop on the road but we did take a few pics while driving. We also got surprised by a dazed cow wandering out of the smoky forest into the road. That was a bit scary but Rosie was driving carefully so it was OK.

After driving north for an hour or so we had left most of the smoke behind and we were able to turn East again. We drove across the Sonora Pass - another winding up and down drive - and then continued into Nevada, our second state :-)

We managed to find a rest stop to stay at tonight - the first rest stop we've seen! There was a big tap there so I could get in my swimsuit and have a side of the road shower just like old times!

More driving the next day. We drove all across Nevada along the Extraterrestrial highway. Famous for it's proximity to Area 51 and for all the UFO sightings reported along it. We kept a look out but didn't spot any!
We've covered a lot of miles in the last 2 days. We've listened to a lot of Christian radio, Spanish radio (actually pretty good), we've sang plenty of Country and I've subjected Rosie to a lot of me singing the Wicked soundtrack! When I'm the passenger I also entertain myself by taking pictures of the road, the roadside scenery and myself! Just to keep the photo editor busy!

We had our picnic at Cathedral Gorge and then crossed into Utah. Our third state in 24 hours. The states go by fast here! The weather started to turn a bit wet once we were in Utah, we stopped in Cedar City for supplies and to use the Wi-fi in Wal-mart! We found a campsite 10 miles out of town. We decided not to go any further that night, hoping the rain would've stopped by tomorrow.....it didn't!
