The Start of the West Coast

After our two nights inland at Nelson Lakes we headed back to the coast, the west coast this time.
We stopped at Cape Foulwind and walked along the coast to Tauranga Bay where we saw our first seals of the trip. NZ fur seals.
I found the walk quite tough because of my cold. We had picked a tavern to go to for lunch but it was closed. So we ended up getting foot long subs. I felt a bit better after that and we continued north to Gentle Annie and our campground for the night. I retired to the tent quite early to try to recover. Rosie stayed in the café for a while charging and using the wifi. We cooked noodles in the grass near our tent for dinner and had them with bread.

We love a good lighthouse!

Feeling a bit poorly! :-(

There's probably seals in this pic, may need a magnifying glass...

There's definitely seals in this one.....

Wild West Coast

In the morning we had a lie in until 9am.  Then we drove north through Karamea to the end of the road at Kohaihai and the start of the Heaphy track. We walked along the track as far as Scott's beach where we had our picnic lunch and then back.
On the drive home we stopped and did a short walk to Lake Hanlon.

The weather was a bit changeable. We had sunshine and nice views when we were out walking, but the morning was very cloudy and in the afternoon a it started to rain. It rained and was quite windy for most of the night. The tent is still holding up well!
